The Flight To Shanghai

My journey began in Dallas at 4am this morning (now 8pm Dallas time), and I am finally getting the chance to fully relax 36,000 feet in the air.  The route was Dallas-Chicago-Shanghai.  Now that is like the ultimate tease, having a layover in Chicago with no time to get out and swing my one of the many outstanding restaurants!  Joking with a friend this morning (aka “Big D” or “DA” -a true foodie), I texted, arrived in Chicago, wish I could stop off and grab 12 courses “to go” from Alinea!  Another friend pings me an email- swing through Hot Doug’s!  Thanks geniuses like I am not thinking along the same lines and salivating at the mere thought of some of my favorites!  Sadly settled for a hummus/greek salad with walnuts and dried cherries… no comparison but beats the typical airport slop!

Off To Shanghai

With a combined sleep average of 3 hours a night for the past 7 days why would last night be any different?  No problem I am usually at the guy at 3AM before my international flights.. This time was getting details sorted and ensuring all the moving parts are in place.

Flight departing at 6am- that meant…

Roll out of bed, grab a hot shower, make the final zips of the suitcases, and have some breakfast. The final meal on US soil for the next 4 ½ months was: Corn Flakes, banana, 2% milk and green tea. Not a bad start to the morning.

Sobering Goodbyes

Sobering Good Byes….

Time being as tight as it was, I was peppered with calls, “let’s get together before you leave”… it always sounds great in theory, so to avoid making time for one friend and not another I worked my magic and just called a “meeting of the minds”.  Otherwise known as Happy Hour!
